Establishment
In 2016, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the “National Song and Dance Academy” Educational-Cultural Foundation and the RA Ministry of Education, Science, Culture, and Sports, according to which the foundation was recognized as the leading institution in the field.
The subject “National Song and Dance” is taught by teachers of various specializations who undergo mandatory subject-specific training lasting a total of 30 days, while students study the subject in grades 5–7 in schools.
Dance is a path to self-discovery
Today, the program is implemented in 442 schools (Yerevan – 113, Aragatsotn – 34, Ararat – 9, Armavir – 103, Gegharkunik – 5, Lori – 7, Kotayk – 29, Shirak – 17, Syunik – 7, Vayots Dzor – 46, Tavush – 72), and we have more than 600 teachers who have completed the training.
Until 2024, AEPA was funded by the RA Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports to organize and conduct the training of subject teachers.
The annual funding amounted to 7,700,000 AMD. This amount allowed AEPA to train 100 teachers per year through a 15-day training program. Therefore, every two years an additional 100 schools were able to join the subject.
Unfortunately, since 2022, the subject trainings no longer receive funding from the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports, which creates an obstacle to the continuous implementation of the subject.

Future Plans
AEPA plans to continue implementing the subject until “National Song and Dance” is included in the curriculum of all public schools in the Republic of Armenia. At this moment, the subject has been introduced in approximately half of the schools.
For one year of training, we need a budget of 15.4 million AMD; in this case, AEPA will be able to implement the program in 200 schools within 2 years, and within 3–4 years the implementation process in all schools will be completed.
